Picking the Perfect Summer Wedding Dress
Friday, June 11th, 2010Summer is always the most popular time for a wedding and of course a dream wedding needs a lot of planning. Some would argue that the most important item on a wedding day is of course the wedding dress and there are definitely some considerations to picking a wedding dress, and your bridesmaid dresses, for the summer months.
When you’re picking out your dresses you should probably be prepared for the weather to be quite warm. I know it’s the UK and it may well rain but fingers crossed you’ll have a beautiful sunny day. So when you’re picking your bridesmaid dresses – try to be kind!
After all if it’s a scorching hot day and you’re going to be outside (or indeed stuck inside for a while) then you don’t want your bridesmaids wearing full length gowns with sleeves and a wrap as they will be far too hot. For bridesmaid dresses you can get away with a shorter length in a flowy fabric like chiffon which will hopefully keep your ladies cool if it starts heating up. You can always add a wrap or matching cropped jacket in case they get chilly later on.
The same principal applies to a wedding dress, except that of course many people will opt for full length gowns. There’s nothing wrong with that – your wedding day is the one time you get to do full on glamour but the good news is that a shorter length will also look great on a summer wedding day and you can show off your legs.
The best part about a summer wedding is that you can show off some skin in your wedding dress – which has the added benefit of keeping you cool. If you want to show off your shoulders, pick a neckline such as a halterneck, off the shoulder, sweetheart corset or strapless design for your wedding dress. Just make sure you don’t have any tan lines from sunbathing on your big day!
Remember that if your wedding dress or bridesmaid dresses have you showing off some flesh and it is going to be hot then keep the suncream handy, as the last thing you want is red sunburnt faces, chests, shoulders and legs in your wedding photos.
Fabric wise it’s lucky that quite a few dresses these days are made with silk and plenty feature chiffon or organza overlays which add luxury, but don’t add weight and heat.
Something else to consider with a summer wedding is that you want to look as pretty as all the flowers around you so pretty pastel colours are often a popular choice for bridesmaid dresses and accessories, and even wedding dresses come in colours other than white, ivory and cream these days. If you want to add a touch of nature to your outfit you can opt for floral accessories like a corsage in your hair or summer inspired jewellery.
Of course the main thing to remember when having a summer wedding is to have fun – after all it’s your big day and the themes of your wedding will be personal to you, so let your natural beauty shine and find the perfect wedding dress for you.

People love holidays. It is necessary for everybody, even workaholics, to recharge and get distracted from work. What is more, a person should have a lot of fun during his/her days-off. But is there a universal thing that gives people joy? “Wine rejoices the heart of man and joy is the mother of all virtues.”- J. W. Goethe said. Consequently, a bottle of
